 Teaching Assistant

This is an interesting position for the candidate who will enjoy a challenge for 4 days a week 9.00am – 11.45.  The position is to work in various EYFS/Year 1 for the general support in teaching and learning.  Pay scale depending on experience and qualifications.

This job description describes in general terms the normal duties which the teaching assistant will be expected to undertake.  However, the job or duties described may vary or be amended from time to time without changing the level of responsibility associated with the post.  The deputy Headteacher, phase leader, inclusion manager, higher level teaching assistant and class teachers line manage the teaching assistant.

Teaching and learning

  • Assist class teachers with observing and recording progress to inform future learning.
  • Provide support to pupils inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities by interpreting or simplifying teachers’ instructions when necessary.
  • Supervising small groups of children for selected activities by explaining and ensuring that learning outcomes are achieved.
  • Assisting children to develop independence with self-help skills (coats, bags, toileting, etc).
  • Take part in planning sessions with the class teacher, including group and individualised work programmes and reviewing work activities.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes for pupils and help monitor their progress.
  • Having full knowledge of children’s medical and physical needs and knowing who to contact should a problem arise.

Administrative Duties

  • Organising resources and preparing materials for use in the classroom as directed by the class teacher.
  • Prepare and present displays of work which gives value to all children’s work and encourages active participation.
  • Support class teachers in photocopying and other tasks in order to support teaching.
  • Under take such tasks as the Headteacher or line manager may require e.g. support clerical work on occasions, taking part in out of school activities, supporting children in another class or activity, etc.

General duties

  • Supervise children with vigilance at break times as part of a rota system.
  • Administering basic First Aid and being willing and able to assist children when they are ill and being willing to clear up if a child has any sort of accident e.g. sickness or toileting around  the school.
  • Maintaining Health and Safety standards and a high level of hygiene.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
  • Support and promote decisions and policies agreed by the SLT and the Governing Body.
  • Develop effective working relationships with professional colleagues.
  • Develop own professional knowledge, skills and understanding through active participation at meetings and training.

Experience

  • NVQ level 2 in Child Care or above or willing to undertake qualification asap.
  • First aid trained is desirable.
  • Current CRB enhanced check desirable.

Knowledge and skills

  • Able to communicate effectively in English and numeracy and science, to contribute to pupil learning.
  • IT skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Able to relate effectively to pupils and adults.
  • Able to undertake administrative procedures to support the work of the teacher.
  • To assist with behaviour problems and report such problems appropriately.
  • To provide sensitive and appropriate welfare support to pupils.
  • Able to engage with children in play and encourage positive play.
  • Able to motivate pupils to learn.
  • Able to prepare resources for teaching and learning activities and create displays.

Personal Attributes

  • Patience and sensitivity in a calm and caring manner whilst maintaining firm boundaries.
  • An awareness of the needs of the child and use own initiative when responding to these needs.

Teaching Assistant KS2

This is an interesting position for candidate who will enjoy a challenge for five mornings a week 8:30 – 12 noon.  The position is to work in a KS2 class for the general support in teaching and learning. Scale point  8 – 10 depending on qualifications and experience. Term time only. This is a fixed term contract from April 16th – July 20th 2012, with a possibility of continuation into the Autumn Term. Closing date Friday 2nd March 2012.

Job description.

  • Support childrens learning by developing their reading, writing, speaking, listening and numeracy skills.
  • To work as part of a team to ensure that the well-being, behaviour and personal development of pupils.
  • Encourages good standards of behaviour and monitor the behaviour of pupils in accordance with the schools behaviour policy.
  • Observes school security and health and safety arrangements.
  • Supervising small groups of children for selected activities by explaining and ensuring that learning outcomes are achieved.
